Cinderella Days
The Skipper liked to come along and sing
with the school choir
in long evening rehearsals ––
'The shades of night were falling fast
Upidee, upidah!', Te Deum Laudamus,'Ash Grove'
a host of lovely ancient songs, chanteys,
and CINDERELLA, with him
sparkling and peruked in buckled shoes
as Dandini – and one of the troops
as Cinderella of The Huge Feet.
We knew there was no crystal slipper
in all of Christendom to fit such
plates of meat, but sang along
learning to give voice to humour in a song.
